A large diameter X-pipe in the primary flow path allows for a refined amount of aggression while a bespoke X-pipe muffler induces a smooth exhaust note as the valves close. DEVELOPMENT : Our aim was to increase the volume of the rear exhaust while maintaining a refined tone and level of volume – even with upgraded catalytic converter sections. The factory valves are electronically controlled unlike older “open or closed” vacuum style valves. Able to work variably, the valves will gradually open and close depending on several factors of engine operation. Even under full throttle application in Sport mode the valves will still not stay open 100% of the time. With this in mind it was imperative that our system have a smooth transition during valve operation. To tame drone we made use of our bespoke X-pipe muffler. Internally this muffler is quite unique. It has little to no restriction in the flow path, using straight through piping that is perforated to allow exhaust gasses to escape and become muffled in the surrounding packing material of the muffler body. We incorporated an internal X-pipe to allow the exhaust flow to merge smoothly. These characteristics combined were crucial towards reducing and smoothing out the drone in the 2,000-2,400rpm range while enhancing that higher pitched note we were after in both the valves closed and open conditions. With valves open exhaust gases are free to flow through 3″ piping with an x-pipe to enhance the tone before exiting out the tips. Exhaust gasses still have a secondary flow path to “talk” with the muffler, encouraging a fuller, more robust tone. Increase the presence and character of the exhaust note in the cabin while maintaining a reasonable level of resonance / drone while driving in both the valves closed and open modes through our signature drone fighting capabilities while shedding over 34 lbs in the process. With valves closed, the exhaust is routed through a bespoke SOUL chambered muffler we designed with an internal X-Pipe to meet our sound goals. This unique muffler was crafted to match our high standard of drone fighting mufflers that we are known for in the Porsche world. We tested a more traditional perforated core muffler design as well but the carefully engineered chambers of the final muffler result in a more aggressive sound on and off throttle with reduced undesirable tones. With valves open, exhaust flow is free to exit through 3″ piping for a thunderous roar. Secondary flow through the muffler and x-pipe reduces rasp and smooths the exhaust note for a higher pitched, more refined sound. The end result is two distinct and enjoyable sound modes – mild and wild. SOUND : Imagine the Audi R8’s loudest note-amplified twofold. This exhaust is loud, mean, and encourages crackles and burbles that will be heard a mile away! CONSTRUCTION : Each system is made from mandrel bent .060″ wall T304L stainless steel tubing, CNC machined flanges, and laser cut brackets. Back purged TIG welding (with ARCAL™ Prime argon gas) ensures proper weld penetration and longevity. Water jet cut flanges are made to ISO 9001:2015 standards with tolerances of +/- 0.003 inches for extreme precision. We fabricate each exhaust using thick gauge aluminum fixtures which act as a great heat sink during the welding process and prevent warping not only of our products, but the fixtures themselves to ensure perfect fitment. Description: The 987 has ample sound deadening and is further quieted down by the turbocharger making for a mellow cabin experience with both base exhaust and PSE. To some this will not stand, and for them, we built an aggressive system designed for aggressive use. Suncoast Parts were looking for a durable system for their track vehicle which experienced a failure with another brand’s exhaust and as such we beefed up our Performance Exhaust to excel on the racetrack. Flex sections in the over axle piping and bespoke mounting brackets for both manual and PDK transmissions promote longevity and reduce NVH. Each system is made from mandrel-bent T304L stainless steel tubing (featuring 2.5″ OD over axle pipes), thick cast flanges, and durable flex sections. With factory downpipe, you’ll be treated to slightly more turbo noise with a nice bark and rumble from the boxer engine.
