What It Does

The twin-turbo S55 has front and rear downpipes of different lengths, so the two banks of three cylinders reach the exhaust out of step. That is where the buzzy, "two inline-threes" sound comes from. The equal length mid pipe evens out those path lengths so the pulses meet in time, which gives a smoother, fuller inline-six note. The Maad Maxx rear section then adds a low, deep rumble and keeps the factory valve function, so the car can still be quieter when the valves are shut.

Materials and Construction

Both parts are 304 stainless steel and made by Active Autowerke in the USA. The rear section is the Active Autowerke Maad Maxx, a three-can valved design with dump valves, flex joints to cut vibration and double-canned mufflers to tame resonance. Each one is test-fitted on Active Autowerke's F8X exhaust fixture. The Gen 2 mid pipe includes the Active Autowerke F-brace and all hardware needed. Pick from four tip finishes: brushed stainless, matte black, carbon fiber, or carbon fiber over black.
