AMS Alpha Intercooler System | 2014-2016 Porsche 911 Turbo / Turbo S 991.1

The AMS Performance Alpha Intercooler System (part number ALP.23.09.0001-1) replaces the two factory side-mounted intercoolers on the 991.1-generation Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S. The 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six packs its intercoolers into the rear fenders, where they soak up heat on every hard pull. Once the car is tuned or running E85, the factory cores simply cannot shed that heat fast enough and the ECU starts pulling timing.

AMS set out to build a system that gives up nothing in quality, fitment or appearance while making a real difference in intake temperatures. On one customer 911 Turbo that AMS logged on its dyno, manifold air temperature with the factory intercoolers climbed from 81 °F to 168 °F during a single fourth-gear pull. With the AMS intercoolers, charge pipes and turbo inlets installed, the same pull started at 74 °F and finished at 71 °F. That car also gained about 70 wheel horsepower and 70 lb-ft, although AMS notes that inlets and tuning changed at the same time, so not all of that gain came from the intercoolers alone.

The kit uses bar-and-plate cores with cast end tanks and comes with molded air ducts, couplers and clamps, so it installs in the factory locations without cutting the car.

FAQ

Does this fit the 991.2 Turbo?
No. This kit is for the 991.1 Turbo and Turbo S. AMS makes a separate intercooler system for the 991.2 Carrera.

Do I need a tune?
The intercoolers bolt on and work with the factory calibration. A tune lets you take full advantage of the lower charge temperatures.

Will it help on a stock car?
Yes. Lower intake temperatures help any 911 Turbo hold timing in hot weather, but the largest gains show up on tuned and E85 cars.
