Overview

The Mk7 Golf R is a hot hatch with two personalities, and the AWE SwitchPath Exhaust lets it sound like both. Valves in the system let you choose between a quieter, comfortable tone for the commute and a fully open, unleashed sound when the road opens up.

AWE designed, engineered and built the SwitchPath system in-house from CNC mandrel-bent 3-inch and 2.5-inch U.S.-sourced .065-inch wall T304L stainless steel. The clean, straight-through layout favors flow, and AWE measured up to 12 hp and 9 lb-ft at the wheels on a turbo-back setup with stock software.

The rear finishes in four 102mm (4-inch) double-walled, slash-cut tips in Chrome Silver or Diamond Black. The system bolts on in place of the factory cat-back. Valve control can be added with the AWE SwitchPath Remote, sold separately, for push-button mood control.

What does SwitchPath do?
Valves in the exhaust let you choose a quieter path for cruising or an open path for maximum sound.

Is the remote included?
No. The AWE SwitchPath Remote is sold separately and adds push-button control of the valves.

Does it fit the 2018-2019 Golf R?
No. The Mk7.5 Golf R uses a different AWE system. This one is for the 2015-2017 Mk7 Golf R.

Can I convert it to Track Edition later?
Yes. AWE sells a SwitchPath-to-Track conversion kit for the Mk7 Golf R.

Is it street legal?
AWE lists this system as 50 State Legal because it does not tamper with any emissions control or monitoring devices; it bolts on behind the catalytic converters. AWE does not publish a CARB Executive Order number for it, and local sound limits vary, so check the rules where you drive.

Fitment Notes

  • Fits U.S.-market 2015-2017 Volkswagen Golf R (Mk7) with the 2.0T, manual or DSG.
  • Not for the 2018-2019 Golf R (Mk7.5), GTI or Golf Alltrack. Please call to confirm fitment on a modified car.
  • Replaces the factory cat-back on the factory hangers with no cutting. No tune required.

Shipping & returns

Shipping: Orders ship via UPS, FedEx or USPS, from our facility near Los Angeles or directly from the manufacturer. Rates for many items are weight-based and shown at checkout. If you need it by a certain date, text us before you order.

Returns: Unused items in brand-new condition and original packaging can be returned within 30 days of the invoice date, with a 25% restocking fee unless otherwise specified. In some cases we can offer a lower fee with the balance as store credit. Shipping charges aren't refundable in either direction unless approved by AutoTalent.

Not returnable: special-order or custom items, and anything that has been installed, modified or altered.

Cancellations: free if the item is out of stock or we miss the ETA you agreed to. Other cancellations carry a 5% processing fee to cover card fees we can't recover. Special-order items can't be cancelled.

Damaged in transit? Report it to the carrier and to us within 48 hours, keep all packaging, and don't send anything back without our written approval.
