IPE Cat-Back Exhaust Volkswagen Golf R Mk7.5 2016-2020

Golf R owners get a stronger exhaust note from the EA888 Gen3 with this IPE system for the Mk7.5. It is a valved T304 stainless cat-back, and the same page lets you add IPE's downpipe with front pipe in either a catted or catless version.

About IPE

IPE, also written iPE, started in 1998 as Innotech Performance Exhaust and now supplies valved exhaust systems for sports and supercars. Builds use T304 stainless steel and Grade 1 titanium, with TIG welding for strong, clean joints. AutoTalent is a US dealer for the IPE line.

Material and build

• T304 stainless steel, handcrafted by IPE.
• IPE lists the Mk7.5 R system as 4.0 kg (13%) lighter than the factory exhaust.
• Valvetronic muffler with actuated valves for a quiet mode and a louder open mode.
• Chrome Silver tips are standard. Titanium Blue, Chrome Black and Carbon Fiber tips are upgrades. Tip upgrades cost more on the R than on the GTI.

How the Valvetronic muffler works

With the valves closed, exhaust gas takes a smaller path, which keeps the car quiet around town and on the highway. With the valves open, the gas has a freer route out, and the car gets louder with a more open tone. IPE's systems offer On, Off and Auto modes. In Off mode the valves open on their own at 4,000 RPM as a safeguard.

Remote control and the optional OBD remote

Every system with the remote option comes with IPE's Bluetooth remote control module. You pick the mode from the remote, and it needs IPE's accelerator signal line installed and set up for Auto mode.

The optional OBD remote adds IPE's OBDII hand gesture sensor. It connects through the car's OBDII port and talks to the car over CAN, so you switch modes with a hand gesture. It works only if the car supports CAN communication and has no other OBD devices in the port. It is an add-on to the remote, not a replacement for it.

Choose your options

• Exhaust Tip Finish: Chrome Silver is standard. Titanium Blue, Chrome Black and Carbon Fiber add to the price shown in the dropdown.
• Optional Downpipe: Cat-Back Only, an IPE catted (200-cell) downpipe with front pipe, or a catless downpipe with front pipe.
• Optional OBD Remote: Stay with the standard remote, or add the OBDII sensor.

Good to know before you buy

• IPE's downpipe with front pipe does not fit the factory cat-back or other brands' cat-back systems. It needs the matching IPE system.
• IPE lists the downpipe for left-hand-drive cars with the standard factory configuration.
• IPE sells catted (200-cell) and catless downpipes for motorsport and track use only. A catless pipe can trigger a check engine light, and IPE does not cover that under warranty, so plan on an ECU tune.
• IPE gives a one-year limited warranty from the ship date. It does not cover wear items such as gaskets, springs and heat wrap, or damage from poor installation. Tips are decorative, so IPE does not accept appearance returns once they are installed.
• Do not wash the tips with strong acid or harsh solvents. Light discoloration after heavy heat cycles is normal.
• Fitment follows IPE's price-list application. Confirm your car's configuration before ordering.
