Overview

M-Tuner is M-Engineering's at-home calibration suite for the 991.2 911 Turbo and Turbo S, powered by the 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six. The wireless M-Tuner v3 dongle plugs into the OBD port and a Windows laptop does the flashing, so the ECU never leaves the car. Off-the-shelf maps cover 91, 93 and 100 octane, and On-The-Fly Live Map Switching lets you change between them while you drive.

M-Engineering's custom code adds Detonation Defense: when knock events go beyond a set threshold, the car is put into map slot 5 within 20 milliseconds for about 10 seconds. Auto Start/Stop is disabled on all off-the-shelf maps, and ProTuning is available for upgraded turbos, built motors and ethanol blends. The software also reads and clears engine faults, datalogs, shows live data and flashes back to stock whenever you want.

Stage 2 is generally about 20 to 40 whp more than Stage 1, according to M-Engineering, and Stage 3 cars with upgraded intercoolers run the Stage 2 calibrations. Upgraded turbos are not covered by the off-the-shelf maps and require a ProTune. New factory spark plugs gapped to .022 are recommended but not required.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a bench flash or an OBD flash?
OBD. The M-Tuner Calibration Suite flashes the 991.2 Turbo at home through the OBD-II port with the wireless M-Tuner v3 dongle, so no ECU removal is necessary. You need a Windows PC, or a Mac running Boot Camp or similar, and a battery charger is highly recommended.

How much power will I gain?
M-Engineering publishes wheel dyno charts from its Mainline ProHub dyno in South Florida rather than a single figure. It states that Stage 2 generally makes about 20 to 40 whp more than Stage 1; the exact gain depends on your car, stage and octane.

Can I go back to stock for the dealer?
Yes. Flash back to stock whenever you like; the uninstall file restores your original CALID and CVN.
