AMP Research builds the step systems that make getting in and out of a lifted truck or SUV effortless. The brand is best known for the PowerStep — a retractable electric running board that automatically extends when you open a door and folds flush under the rocker when you close it, keeping a clean profile and full ground clearance when you're driving. It's become one of the most recognized powered running boards on the market, offered in several tiers to match different trucks, budgets, and load ratings.

Beyond running boards, AMP Research covers the rest of the climb-and-load problem. The BedStep and BedStep2 give you a sturdy retractable step for reaching into the bed or over the tailgate, and the BedXTender HD extends usable bed length for hauling longer cargo with the tailgate down. A full range of supporting parts — pass-through harnesses, override switches, LED light kits, and conversion kits — keeps these systems serviceable and adaptable across builds.

Every AMP Research product is engineered for specific truck and SUV applications, so fitment matters. Each product page lists exact vehicle, year, and cab compatibility, along with load ratings and finish, so you can confirm the right kit for your setup before you order. Whether you're adding powered steps to a daily-driven pickup or outfitting a work truck for easier access, AMP Research is built to bolt on and hold up.

AMP Research FAQ

What is the AMP Research PowerStep?
The PowerStep is a retractable electric running board that automatically extends when you open a door and retracts flush under the vehicle when the door closes. It gives you a stable step for entry and exit while preserving ground clearance and a clean look when driving.

What's the difference between the PowerStep models?
AMP offers several tiers — including the standard PowerStep, PowerStep XL, PowerStep XTreme, PowerStep Vision, and PowerStep Smart Series — that vary in board width, load rating, lighting, and features. Check each product page for specifications and vehicle fitment.

Do AMP Research steps fit my truck?
AMP products are engineered for specific truck and SUV applications by year, model, and cab configuration. Confirm compatibility on the product page using your vehicle details before ordering.

What's the difference between the BedStep and BedXTender?
The BedStep is a retractable step that helps you reach into the truck bed or over the tailgate. The BedXTender HD is a bed extender that flips out to add usable cargo length when the tailgate is down. They solve different problems and can be used together.

Can PowerSteps be installed at home?
Many AMP kits are designed to bolt on with basic tools, and plug-and-play options simplify wiring on supported vehicles. Installation complexity varies by model and vehicle, so review the product's install instructions and wiring requirements first.
