A Milltek cat-back replaces everything behind the catalyst — mid-pipe, resonator (on resonated systems), rear silencer, and tips — with T304L stainless pipework built to OE fit tolerances in the UK. It's usually the right starting point for an exhaust upgrade: it's the section that shapes the sound you actually hear at the tailpipe, it doesn't require a tune on most platforms, and it leaves the emissions hardware forward of the cat untouched.

Milltek builds the range in a few clear configurations. Resonated systems keep a mid-pipe resonator and deliver an OE+ tone — cleaner at idle, engineered to avoid cabin drone at cruise, with a meaningful volume bump under load. Non-resonated drops the resonator for a louder, more aggressive note with more overrun character. On cars that came with factory valved exhausts — G42 M240i, 8Y RS3, Mk8 Golf R, F22 M240i LCI, and similar — Milltek's ValveSonic active systems retain the stock valve motors so you keep the full quiet-to-loud range through drive mode. Tip choices span oval, round, GT-80, GT-100, and polished or cerakote-black finishes across most platforms.

What's the difference between resonated and non-resonated?

Resonated keeps a mid-pipe resonator for a cleaner OE+ tone with minimal cabin drone. Non-resonated drops the resonator for a louder, more aggressive note. Same pipework and stainless grade on both.

Do I need a tune for a Milltek cat-back?

No on most platforms. The cat-back sits behind the catalyst and doesn't change emissions flow. A tune is only required if you're also adding a high-flow downpipe or decat.

Will it drone at highway speed?

Resonated systems are tuned specifically to avoid drone. Non-resonated can have some drone on certain platforms; if that's a concern, go resonated or add Milltek's optional center silencer where available.
