AMS Stock Location Intercooler | 2015-2026 F-150 & Raptor EcoBoost

The AMS Performance Stock Location Intercooler (AMS.55.09.0001) is a bolt-in replacement for the factory front mount intercooler on the 2015-2026 Ford F-150 2.7L and 3.5L EcoBoost and the 2017-2026 Raptor. It uses a 21 x 10.25 x 5.5 inch bar and plate core, which AMS says is the largest OEM-location core on the market for these trucks and 115 percent larger than stock, more than double the factory core volume.

AMS tested it on a 2022 Raptor 3.5L EcoBoost on a Mainline hub dyno with 93 octane and a COBB Accessport Stage 2 off-the-shelf map, swapping only the intercooler. After a 12-second pull the factory intercooler was putting out 168 F charge air at 6,350 rpm; the AMS unit held 88 F, an 80 degree difference. Efficiency stayed at 93 percent through redline against as low as 59 percent for the factory part, pressure drop across the core fell 20.5 percent, and the truck gained 12.3 whp while running nearly 2 psi less boost on the same tune.

This is AMS's second-generation F-150 intercooler. Cast end tanks replace the fabricated tanks of the original design for more even charge air distribution, an integrated drain port lets you clear condensation or blow-by without pulling the core, and the outlet keeps the factory blow off valve location while adding compatibility with aftermarket valves such as the Turbosmart VeePort. It mounts in the factory location and keeps the factory piping fitment.

Specifications

Before You Order

The upper support brackets and hardware are shown in the last gallery photo. The AMS installation guide uses these brackets to reattach the bumper support rods. Factory charge pipes and the blow off valve are reused.

2021+ F-150 PowerBoost trucks need the factory external pedestrian-alert speaker moved or removed. AMS sells an External Speaker Relocation Bracket (AMS.55.09.0001-5) separately for this. It is not included.

Installation

AMS's stock location intercooler installation guide (PDF) covers removing the factory intercooler through the front of the truck and installing the AMS core on the factory mounts. The guide uses the included upper support brackets to reconnect the bumper support rods, and it covers the PowerBoost speaker relocation separately.

FAQ

Do I need a tune?
No. AMS measured its 12.3 whp gain on the same COBB Stage 2 map it used with the factory intercooler. AMS notes that a calibration built around the cooler, denser charge air can add more.

Will it work with my factory charge pipes?
Yes. It keeps the factory mounting and piping fitment. On 2021+ trucks it is also built to mate with the AMS F-150 Intercooler Pipes.

Stock location or high mount?
This intercooler sits where the factory one does. The AMS High Mount Intercooler moves the core up behind the upper grille to make room for a winch or a frame-cut bumper.
