AWE SwitchPath Exhaust for 2021-2026 BMW G8X M3, M4

The AWE SwitchPath™ Exhaust for the G80 M3 and G82 M4 gives the S58 twin-turbo six two distinct personalities and lets the car's own drive modes choose between them. It is AWE's first SwitchPath™ system for BMW to use drone-cancelling 180 Technology®, built as a dual 3-inch cat-back with a bespoke X-pipe and a valved SwitchPath™ muffler tuned specifically for the S58.

The X-pipe starts right behind the factory mid-section and takes the rasp out of the S58, deepening the tone before the rear muffler refines it further. With the valves closed, the M3 or M4 has a refined, aggressive howl that stays full-bodied under throttle, while cabin sound at cruising speed stays close to stock with no drone. Switch to Sport or Sport+ and the valves open: the exhaust note turns powerful and clean, and Sport+ adds burbles on the overrun. Because SwitchPath™ uses the factory valve actuators and drive-mode logic, there is no extra remote or controller to wire in.

AWE measured up to 3 hp and 5 lb-ft of torque at the wheels from the clean, straight-through layout. The system mounts on ball sockets for easier alignment, uses inlet adapters to join the factory mid-section, and fits both the stock and M Performance rear valances. It finishes in quad 4.5-inch double-walled slash-cut tips in Chrome Silver or Diamond Black, and is manufactured in-house by AWE in the USA.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it keep my factory exhaust valves and M modes?
Yes. SwitchPath™ uses the factory valve actuators and drive-mode control, so no remote or extra controller is needed.

Will it drone on the highway?
No. With the valves closed, AWE reports cabin acoustics close to stock at cruising speed, helped by 180 Technology®.

Does it fit the M4 Convertible?
AWE does not guarantee it on the G83 Convertible because of additional factory bracing.

Is it street legal?
AWE lists this system as 50 State Legal because it does not tamper with any emissions control or monitoring devices; it bolts on behind the catalytic converters. AWE does not publish a CARB Executive Order number for it, and local sound limits vary, so check the rules where you drive.

Do I need a tune?
No. It is a cat-back system and AWE guarantees no check engine light.

Can I add the mid pipes later?
Yes. With the AWE Non-Resonated Performance Mid Pipes, the supplied inlet adapters are simply not used.

Fitment Notes

• Built for U.S.-market G80 M3 sedans and G82 M4 coupes. AWE does not guarantee fitment on the G83 M4 Convertible because of its additional factory bracing.
• Special editions such as the M3 CS and M4 CSL: please call or text us to confirm before ordering.
• AWE confirms fitment with both the stock and M Performance rear valances.
• Installation cuts the factory exhaust at the point AWE specifies, ahead of the rear section; ball-socket adapters and inlet adapters join the AWE system to the factory mid-section. No tune required.
