AMS Race Lower Downpipes | 2016-2024 Q50 / 2017-2022 Q60 3.0t VR30

The AMS Performance VR30DDTT Race Lower Downpipes (part number ALP.28.05.0001-1) are a catless replacement for the restrictive factory lower downpipes on the 3.0-liter twin-turbo VR30DDTT engine. They fit the 2016-2024 Infiniti Q50 3.0t, the 2017-2022 Infiniti Q60 3.0t and the 2023-2027 Nissan Z. AMS sold this pair as the "Red Alpha" lower downpipes; the part number has not changed.

Each side is a full 3" stainless steel tube bent on a mandrel, so the diameter stays constant through every bend instead of pinching the way crush-bent pipe does. Exhaust leaves the turbos with less back pressure, which AMS found brought power in earlier and sharpened turbo spool on its shop Q60. On the street the sound stays quiet at idle and part throttle and turns deep and throaty at wide-open throttle.

Installation

The pipes bolt between the factory upper downpipes and the cat-back. AMS's installation guide (PDF) walks through removal. The factory lock nuts on the upper studs are known to seize, so AMS advises soaking them in penetrant and loosening them a little at a time with hand tools, not an impact gun. On AWD cars the right-side secondary O2 connector is hard to reach until the factory downpipe is unbolted.

FAQ

Do I need a tune for the AMS race lower downpipes?
AMS says a calibration is very unlikely to be required for the lower downpipes alone, but it still recommends one to get the most power from the part and to confirm the engine is running correctly afterward.

Are these downpipes catless?
Yes. The race lower downpipes have no catalytic converter and are sold for race and competition vehicles only. AMS requires its Race Waiver for emissions-controlled vehicles in the US. If your car has to stay catted, choose the AMS Street Lower Downpipes with GESI catalytic converters.

Lower downpipes or full downpipes?
The lowers replace only the lower section and bolt to the factory upper pipes. AMS full downpipes replace the whole run from the turbos back, and on AMS's own tuned Q60 the full set made about 20 horsepower more than these lowers. See the AMS full downpipes for the Q50.

Will they work with my stock exhaust?
Yes. The kit includes a 2.5" to 3.0" adapter, so the pipes connect to the factory cat-back or to an aftermarket 3" system.

Do my factory O2 sensors fit?
Yes. Both pipes have threaded O2 bungs that take the factory sensors.

Fits every VR30DDTT trim of the cars below, including Red Sport 400, Nismo and the AWD Q50 and Q60. It does not fit the 2.0t or hybrid Q50.
