Description: Active Autowerke is familiar with some of the issues that 2012 and newer N55 BMW 335i, 435i, M235i and M2 owners experience even running with the factory BMW boost. The BMW N55 utilizes an all plastic construction for the factory charge pipe. This charge pipe will eventually break, it is just a matter of time and when. Whenever the factory charge pipe break at the plastic seam, the engine immediately senses a huge vacuum leak where the engine ECU counters by sending the engine into a Limp mode condition. Usually, the car's performance will feel diminished and lack luster as if running without a proper firing cylinder. The Active Autowerke N55 Charge Pipe is a designated product designed from inception to cure and eliminate this problem on your BMW. Constructed from all aluminum makes this charge pipe almost indestructible. The connection to the throttle body is a CNC machined part to duplicate the factory fit as well making a tight, reliable seal. Owners of BMW with the N55 engine understands that additional power can be reliably maintained with the use of Water/Methanol injection as an added feature. However, the N55 current does not have a reliable source to accommodate the application of a Water/Methanol nozzles. So their power increase creates its own power decrease problem. Oops. But an Active Autowerke methanol-water injection system will help chill the intake charge to a cooler temperature – effectively combating the heat soak effect. Additionally, the methanol-water mix increases your engine’s knock limit – thus serving as insurance against unwanted high boost detonation. Unfortunately, the factory downpipe in the B58 is quite restrictive, which results in slower exhaust gases and a slower turbo spool. Active AutoWerke F80 F82 BMW M3 & M4 MID PIPE Active Autowerke has been an industry leader in engineering high quality BMW performance products for over 30 years. The Active Autowerke F8X Mid Pipe was specifically designed to eliminate the highly restrictive nature of the OEM F80 M3 and F82 M4 mid pipe – thus creating optimal exhaust flow and drastically improving performance. In addressing the annoying sound ( described by many like that of a weed-eater ) we needed to better understand the issue. After much research and testing we discovered the synchronization of the Turbos as the main factor in the sound. The solution was a single mid pipe which eliminated much of the annoying sound. The next challenge was making a large 3.5" pipe ( needed for optimum performance ) fit without ground clearance issues - thus the oval pipe. Engineered for an exact fit on both the F80 M3 and F82 M4, the difference in power with this mid pipe will be noticeable the moment it is installed! The middle silencer has a small crossover internally. This helps with drone, however, it is also quite restrictive and amplifies the uneven, out-of-sync turbocharger sound that many owners have complained about. Upon analyzing the F8X exhaust, we came to the decision that we can accomplish more with much less – therefore designing our F80 M3 and F82 M4 exhaust started with the highly restrictive mid pipe. With our design, we were able to drastically increasing exhaust flow, while virtually eliminating the "dueling 3-cylinders" sound. M3/M4 MID PIPE PERFORMANCE ADVANTAGES In order to get the most possible gains, we had to apply some trade secrets to our mid pipe design – many of our competitors have done the same. However, we wanted our F8X Mid Pipe to stand out from the rest. Unlike the design of the factory mid pipe, and the mid pipes of our competitors, we decided on a singular pipe design. This was for a few reasons: First and foremost, to cancel out that cheap weed eater sound that is so frequently complained bout. The variance between the lengths of the front and rear down-pipes of almost a foot and a half creates unevenly spaced pulses so that when the merge in any form of crossover system whether stock, x-pipes, double x-pipes, single mid-pipe or rear-section solutions. Since the sound waves are moving at the same rate when they exit the system, these crossover sections are simply creating a higher pitched sound resulting in the annoying sound some have referred to as a weed eater sound. The current systems allow the banks to merge unequally pulsed sounds and after much research and testing (from many BMW experts) it was determined that equalizing the length of the exhaust pipes before mixing was a solution to this sound problem. Initial exhaust solutions focused on correcting this variance in the space behind the differential housing with one complaint being the inability to keep existing rear exhaust systems. Active Autowerke decided to leverage our expertise in having already developed a single mid-pipe system for the F-series M cars and devoted our R&D resources into developing the mid-pipe solution which you see here. Our R&D looked at the ways this could be done and while making up the difference in the rear section of the exhaust seemed like the most logical place, it would require a brand new rear exhaust system and we were aware that many BMW owners would not like this option. So we looked at adding length to the passenger side midpipe section and creating a new crossover section to create an exhaust note that's never been akin to the "S55 sound". Using a patented solution of a crossover with sinusoidal pipes allowed us to correct the downpipe length variance before mixing the sounds giving the expected 6 cylinder sports car exhaust notes. The Active Autowerke F8X Equal Length Mid Pipe was specifically designed to create equal length exhaust pipes adjusting for the difference between the front and rear banks of the F80 M3 and F82 M4 down pipes before mixing in an X-pipe and creating an exhaust note different from the normal "S55 sound". Engineered for an exact fit on both the F80 M3 and F82 M4, the difference in sound with this mid pipe will be noticeable the first time with an open throttle!
